Day 1 Monday 1 Nov 2004
Melbourne - Goulburn (D)

Coach departs Spencer Street coach terminal at 7.00 am. Travel Australia's number one highway, the Hume, to Holbrook for lunch. Continue via Gundagai and see the famous "Dog on the Tucker Box" Memorial. Continue north through Yass to Goulburn, Australia's first inland city, declared as such by Queen Victoria on 14 March 1863 where we stay overnight.

Goulburn - Port Macquarie (BD)

Continue along Hume freeway to Sydney. By pass city centre and continue north along freeway past Newcastle. Enter the land of the big rivers. Enjoy a brief afternoon tea stop in Taree, commercial centre of the rich Manning River Pastoral District, before arriving at the popular seaside resort of Port Macquarie.

Day 3 Wednesday 3 Nov 2004
Port Macquarie - Grafton (BD)

Travel north through Kempsey, Macksville to Coffs Harbour. Enjoy some free time at the shops or perhaps a wander through the beautiful botanic gardens near the centre of town. The gardens feature rare, endangered and exotic plants. Visit the Pet Porpoise Pool for the afternoon Sea Circus Show. Situated on Coffs Creek, the Pet Porpoise Pool is great entertainment. Here we see the dolphins perform their show with expertise. It's difficult to tell who enjoys the performance more...the enthusiastic dolphins, or the audience! We also see the penguins, seals, peacocks and kangaroos - and come face to face with a shark! As we continue our journey north we pass the resorts that dot the coast line immediately north of Coffs Harbour to Bruxner Park (Sealys Lookout) - a scenic drive through banana and avocado plantations with spectacular views across the Koroa Basin and out to sea.

Jacaranda Festival (BD)

Today is Jacaranda Day in Grafton and is a public holiday - a fun day starting with breakfast in Market Square. The Jacaranda Festival is the oldest festival of its type in Australia. There are lots of experiences to treasure over the next three days - many of the shops, offices and staff join in the spirit of the festival. As you roam the streets you will see a junior talent quest, festival of flowers, quilters' exhibition, live entertainment and much more.

Day 5 Friday 5 Nov 2004
Grafton Sightseeing (BD)

A local guide will point out the many interesting features of the City of Jacarandas. Just to drive along the many tree-lined streets with their Jacaranda trees in full bloom is enough to make the trip worthwhile. Grafton is on the Clarence River - the biggest river on the east coast of Australia. This afternoon we will follow the river to its mouth at Yamba by the sea. Tonight we join the Venetian Carnival on the banks of the mighty river and also see a fabulous fireworks display.

Day 6 Saturday 6 Nov 2004
Grafton (BD)

More festival activities including market day, pipe bands, Scottish and Irish dancers and, not to be missed, the Grand Float Procession.

Day 7 Sunday 7 Nov 2004
Grafton - Armidale (BD)

Depart Grafton and travel west over the picturesque Gibraltar Range to Glen Innes. We will stop along the way for a church service to worship our Lord. Continue down the New England Highway to the university city of Armidale.

Day 8 Monday 8 Nov 2004
Armidale - Parks (BD)

Travel to Tamworth the country music capital of Australia. Continue to Coonabarabran and skirt the Warrumbungle National Park. See the volcanic sculptures and diverse landscapes in the distance. Proceed through Gilgandra, home of the coo-ees and the town of windmills. Continue through Dubbo, the regional capital of NSW, and on to Parkes which is sometimes referred to as the "gateway to the stars" because of its giant telescope.

Day 9 Tuesday 9 Nov 2004
Parks - Yarrawonga (BD)

Continue down the Newell Highway through West Wyalong, Narrandera, Jerilderie with its Ned Kelly connections to the Murray River. We then follow the Murray Valley Highway to Yarrawonga on beautiful Lake Mulwala. tonight we have dinner on the M.V. Paradise Queen.

Yarrawonga - Melbourne (B)

This morning we visit Byramine Homestead and Gardens. The Homestead is classified "A" with the citation of "National Importance ... to be preserved at all costs". It was built by the explorer Hamilton Hume in 1842 for his sister-in-law. It has the oldest elm trees in Victoria. Enjoy a Devonshire tea in the lovely gardens before travelling on to Mooroopna Fruit Connection for lunch followed by the opportunity to purchase a wide variety of produce at factory prices. With any space in our bins now full we head for home, arriving in Melbourne around 5.30pm.
