Join us for a “gem” of a holiday in Broome, the “Pearl of the North”. Explore this vibrant multicultural town, learn its interesting frontier history and take in the incredible beauty of the natural wonders of Western Australia’s Kimberley region. This area is renowned for its amazing turquoise waters and the intensely coloured red earth as well as the white sands of the famous Cable Beach.
We have timed this special holiday to coincide with the stunning natural phenomenon called “The Staircase to the Moon”. Come and glory in God’s Creation on this relaxing “Unpack Once” Winter escape holiday, where fun and fellowship combine to create warm friendships.
6 NIGHTS
Today we fly to Broome, the beautiful “Pearl of the North”. A short orientation tour through Broome village and then we will arrive at our home for the next 6 nights – the spectacular Oaks Cable Beach Resort.
Our resort is within easy walking distance of the famous Cable Beach, renowned for its 22 kilometres of white sand and turquoise waters.
Tonight, we gather together for pre-dinner fellowship then enjoy our first “getting to know you” or “glad to see you again” dinner.

Broome is the home of the beautiful South Sea Pearls and their discovery in the 1800s saw Japanese, Filipino and Malay Pearl divers arrive in droves, creating a melting pot of cultures. Immerse yourself in Broome’s multicultural heritage with a visit to the Japanese Cemetery and the Pearling Lugger Museum with a guided tour. Travel back in time when we visit the striking rust-red cliffs at Gantheume Point to look at ancient dinosaur footprints. Rugged eroded cliffs contrast with clear turquoise waters to provide spectacular photographic opportunities. Glory in God’s Creation – this is the life!

Broome has so much to offer and today is one to enjoy at leisure so you can “choose your own adventure”. With your Explorer Bus tickets that CFT have provided you are free to explore “downtown” at your own pace. Sun Pictures is a Broome institution, this beloved cinema is the World’s Oldest Outdoor Picture Garden. Sun Pictures featured in the Jessica Mauboy movie musical “Bran Nue Day” and a historical audio tour is available today at 11am.
Broome offers interesting Museums and Art Galleries, and historic Chinatown is the town’s boutique retail hub and heart and soul. Check out Broome’s various cafes, shops and pearl showrooms. Alternately you can simply relax at the resort or stroll the white sands of Cable Beach and take a dip in the ocean.
It’s your choice!
You may like to book an optional Seaplane Adventure Tour that includes an exciting power boat cruise through the iconic Horizontal Falls! See page 11 for further details.
Other options that can be organised whilst in Broome include the Malcolm Douglas Crocodile Park or Snubfin Dolphin Eco Cruise.
Tonight, we will visit Broome’s renowned Staircase Night Markets where you can also observe Staircase to the Moon, a natural phenomenon observed in Broome only between April and October. It is caused by the rising of a full moon reflecting on the exposed mudflats at extremely low tide creating a beautiful optical illusion of a staircase reaching up to the moon. The Staircase Markets are held at the Town Beach Precinct for one night of the full moon – wander around the colourful local stalls under the stars, sample the tastes of Broome cuisine, listen to local live music and take in the spectacular nighttime views across the ocean.

If Broome is the gateway to the Kimberley, then the Dampier Peninsula is the gateway to the Kimberley Coast. As we journey up the Cape Leveque Road, we will travel through pindan bush, open woodland through to beaches, tidal flats and the mangrove creeks of the Indian Ocean and King Sound to a red earth landscape and unspoiled beaches.
On the Dampier Peninsula we will visit Beagle Bay Aboriginal Community and visit the Sacred Heart Church. Built by hand by the monks and local Aboriginal people this heritage-listed church is one of the most beautiful in Australia with its most prominent feature being a stunning mother-of-pearl shell altar, along with shells adorning the walls and floor.
We then travel north to Cygnet Bay overlooking the impressive Buccaneer Archipelago. Make sure you bring your swimmers as we will have the opportunity to swim in the restaurant pool or you can walk to the nearby beach to enjoy the clear, tropical water and pristine sands.
We return to Broome after our Kimberley Adventure to enjoy dinner at the Mangrove Resort Hotel in time to witness another Staircase to the Moon phenomenon.

This morning we make use of the Broome Explorer Shuttle Bus to “go to town”. We visit the SSJG Heritage Centre – the Old Convent and site was the home of the Sisters of St John of God and it continues to provide a venue for their work. Here we can visit the Garden of Healing and the award-winning Relationships exhibition which offers a unique window into the Kimberley’s settler past and the relationships between its Asian, Aboriginal and European people.
The popular Courthouse Markets are open both Saturday & Sunday (8am – 1pm) so we’ll drop by to browse stalls of local produce and handmade goods and enjoy the buskers and some live music.
Enjoy an afternoon at leisure in town or relax back at our lovely Cable Beach resort and enjoy the hotel facilities or go for a stroll along the nearby sands.
We have a treat in store for this afternoon – a Sunset Cruise on a traditional rigged schooner that is one of Australia’s oldest operating Pearl Luggers. This is whale watching season so keep your eyes out for these incredible creatures as well as other marine life such as dugongs, Snubfin Dolphins, and rays. Soak up the sunset and the glory of God’s Creation.

This morning, we join together for worship and to enjoy fellowship with the local congregation of Broome Anglican church. After church you are free to wander around town or go back to the resort. The Courthouse Markets will be on again today and are a good option for lunch (open 8am – 1pm).
It’s the last night of our holiday so for a final hurrah we have included a quintessential Broome experience – a sunset camel ride. Marvel at a spectacular Indian Ocean sunset from the back of a friendly camel or alternatively, you can watch the passing parade from one of the beach bar cafes.
(Please note – 90kg weight restriction applies to camel rides)
