Get away from the cold weather down South and head with us to Cairns to enjoy a warmer climate and a host of Tropical experiences. As some would say, “Cairns is Cool!” We stay put for the week, allowing plenty of varied sightseeing time that is all included.
Mid North Coast people fly direct to Brisbane on the Alliance flight from Port Macquarie. People from Sydney and other Capital Cities fly to arrive before 12:30pm. Transfer to Roma Street Station to travel overnight to Cairns on the Spirit of Queensland train — with Premium seats that are the overnight sleeper beds, and all meals included.
We arrive in Cairns in the late afternoon and transfer to our selected hotel for check in and maybe take a dip in the pool before dinner.
Our journey this morning is on the picturesque Kuranda train that climbs the Atherton Tablelands through many curves and bridges. Arriving in Kuranda there is some time in the village before we go to the Rainforest Station for a ride in an Army Duck. After lunch our return journey is on Skytrain from Kuranda skimming the tops of the rainforest
to the base below. Transfer back to hotel.
We have come to Cairns to explore the Great Barrier Reef. Our experience in the cruises available for the people who enjoy these tours is a “soft adventure”, so we have selected the Sailing Catamaran “Ocean Spirit” to Michelmas Cay. This is a sand island to make swimming and snorkelling easy, or you can snorkel in deeper water. They have a semisubmersible boat for underwater viewing and of course, a beautiful tropical barbecue served for lunch. Dinner tonight (after a huge lunch) is at your own choice and cost as you may just want to have a snack.
Experience the best of the World Heritage Daintree Rainforest and Cape Tribulation plus the world-famous Breakfast With The Birds at Wildlife Habitat Port Douglas. Enjoy a tropical buffet breakfast and the chance to get up close to and interact with an array of tropical birds. Cross the iconic Daintree River on the cable ferry to Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef. After a tropical lunch, we wander along the palm-fringed beach and take a guided rainforest boardwalk tour. Enjoy stunning rainforest views at Alexandra Lookout and enjoy a Daintree River Cruise to search for wild Estaurine Crocodiles.
This morning we will transfer to a local church for worship before heading to the very special experience known as Tjapukai where we will see the world’s oldest living culture come to life through traditional dance, art and interactive demonstrations. A programme of events runs throughout the afternoon and includes • Creation Story in 360° Theatre
• Art of My People • Tjapukai Aboriginal Dance Performance • Bush Foods & Medicines Presentation • Hunting & Weapons Presentation • Didgeridoo Show • Boomerang & Spear Throwing
A day at leisure for lazing by the pool or shopping for souvenirs. In the late afternoon we will be transferred to Trinity Wharf to join the Catamaran “Spirit of Cairns” for a beautiful afternoon – sunset cruise on Trinity Bay with a special meal freshly prepared and served on board. Return to our hotel.
Sadly we return to our home ports by air from Cairns to all Capital Cities and Port Macquarie.
