Day 2
Sunday 25 August 2024

Worship | Sightseeing | Mindil Sunset Markets

Darwin has a dramatic history from its bombing by the Japanese during WWII to the devastation of Cyclone Tracy in 1974. Today it is a relaxed, modern city celebrating its cosmopolitan mix of over 50 nationalities, and we are fortunate to be able to socialise with the locals rather than just interact as tourists.

After morning worship with a local congregation, we will enjoy a relaxed afternoon of sightseeing including the Museum & Art Gallery of Northern Territory.

Late afternoon we will visit a famous Darwin institution – the Mindil Beach Sunset Market. Mingle with the locals who flock here for the incredible variety of cuisine – Thai, Sri Lankan, Indian, Chinese and Malaysian to Brazilian, Greek, Portuguese and more. Wind your way through the palm lined boulevards as you choose something for dinner, shop for colourful arts & crafts, catch a fire show, stop for a massage or be entertained by buskers, bands and talented performers.

Catch our coach home or you may wish to linger and make your own way back.

We travel to Ubirr Rock, famous for its ancient Aboriginal rock art – tour several “art galleries” set amongst the rocky outcrops and admire the sensational views over Arnhem Land floodplains.

Enjoy dinner together as we reflect on a wonderful day spent exploring this fantastic part of Australia, and marvelling at God’s glorious creation!
