Dust off your summer clothes and prepare to rid yourself of the winter chills when we fly to Brisbane. On arrival we will travel to the Sunshine Coast to check into the beautiful Twin Waters Resort; our home away from home for the next week is just the place to relax and unwind, to soak up the sunshine and enjoy good company.
Get your taste buds ready to be tantalized with a range of tropical tastes; Buderim Ginger is well known and well-loved and today at The Ginger Factory we will have a chance to see how it is produced with the “Taste of Ginger“ tour. Enjoy the tropical gardens as we take a cane train ride on “Moreton” around the property before the “Superbee Show” helps us understand just how hard the bees work for us to enjoy their delicious honey. After a light lunch you will have time to wander around “Ginger Town” where you can pop into the various different shops – Traditional Herbs & Scents, The Doll’s Cottage and Macadamia & Co. – or just enjoy the pretty garden walks. We will return to the resort, so you can enjoy a swim, read a book, or just soak up the sunshine.
Today we will explore the glorious hinterland, driving up to picturesque Montville, a quaint European style village set in lush rolling hills with incredible views all the way down to the coast. First settled in 1887 today you can enjoy a wonderful array of quality galleries & craft cottages, gift and antique shops and specialty shops like the Clock Shop and Montville Woods Gallery. From Montville we will drive to historic Maleny, once predominately a timber town today it produces mainly dairy and tropical fruits. Maleny is well known for its many artists, authors, musicians and craftspeople making for a very vibrant “green” and artistic community. We will enjoy lunch at “The Garden”, a beautiful place to relax with a nursery for all of you “green thumbs” and art and gift boutique for those better with a credit card than gardening gloves. This afternoon a guided tour of Maleny Dairies takes us to see the cows, the milking sheds and the bottling plant and gives us the chance to sample various products like milk, yoghurt and custard - all Royal Easter Show winners. Enjoy the old-fashioned taste of un-homogenised milk and real cream. Yum!
This morning we will spend some time in the amazing “Underwater World.” Immerse yourself in the world of the ocean – touch a sea star, watch tropical reef fish, sharks, turtles and rays swim all around you as you walk through the tunnel of the 80 metre long oceanarium and enjoy watching those clowns of the sea at the seal presentation.
From Underwater World we walk around the corner to the Wharf where a traditional wooden ferry awaits to take us on our private Mooloolaba canal cruise. This relaxing and informative cruise takes us past the beautiful canal side homes as we cruise the canal system and out along the river to the heads to view the coastline. Along the way we will hand feed wild pelicans, view the nests of the Osprey Eagle and keep a close watch out for dolphins and stingrays who are often seen in the area. Back on dry land we will enjoy lunch at the Wharf Tavern before returning to our resort for a relaxing afternoon at leisure.
Steve Irwin, the late Crocodile Hunter, set up the Australia Zoo complex with the vision to make it the biggest and best wildlife conservation facility in the world. Come and enjoy the many different animals and learn more about them and their conservation through dynamic presentations. The Wildlife Warriors Show promises “serious wildlife action” before lunch after which you will have the freedom to enjoy the zoo at leisure. Please remember to bring comfortable shoes as whilst flat if you want to see it all the Zoo is spread out. Motorised wheel scooters are available for hire on a limited basis – these must be booked in advance but paid for on the day direct to the zoo.
Be prepared to tick one of life’s great experiences off your “bucket list” as we join “Whale One” in Mooloolaba and go whale watching. At this time of the year the whales are migrating and today we have the opportunity to sight of one of God’s most magnificent creations – The Humpback Whale. “Awe-inspiring” is an oft used phrase but to actually see these beautiful creatures as they swim by in pods, to see them play and breach nearby, well and truly earns that epitaph. Humpback Whales can sense your nearness and hear the screams of joy as they approach the boat – you are about to have a ‘Whale Encounter’ and you’re going to love it!!
Back on dry land we will enjoy lunch in Mooloolaba before returning to the resort for a relaxing afternoon.
Morning worship and then a nice relaxing day - make the most of the sunshine and the beautiful resort that we are staying in.
Our Sunshine Coast sojourn may have come to an end but after a week of faith, fellowship and fun you are sure to have friendships and memories that will last forever.
