Come and experience the Best of the West with fellow Christians and glory in God’s Creation with 5 nights spent in the heart of the Wildflower Region. Based in Geraldton we will spend time in fellowship with Bishop Gary Nelson who works tirelessly for his parishioners of the vast North West Diocese. Come with CFT and discover the beauty of your own “backyard“ – enjoy swathes of Wildflowers, the unique sandstone spires of the Pinnacles and the beauty of W.A’s pristine coastline.
Our delightful holiday begins as we fly to Perth to be met by our Christian Tour Leader and transferred to beautiful Joondalup Resort. Nestled in natural bushland just 25 minutes north of Perth CBD and five minutes from WA’s Sunset Coast, Joondalup Resort offers an oasis of relaxation, comfort and state of the art facilities. Relax after check-in before our Welcome Dinner to get to know one another.
We drive north to see one of Australia’s best-known natural wonders – The Pinnacles. These striking limestone spires form a surreal lunar-like landscape in the Nambung National Park. Take time to stroll through, explore and photograph these unusual geological formations. A definite must see! From the Pinnacles to as far North as Exmouth is famed as WA’s Coral Coast and we travel through this beautiful region onto Geraldton, our home for the next 5 nights.
Today we will visit one of WA’s most beautiful National Parks, Kalbarri National Park, well known for its ruggedly beautiful gorges and Orchids that bloom during wildflower season. Enjoy time at Hawks Head Lookout to view the dramatic Murchison River Gorge. Around the water we may be lucky to spot some of the almost 200 species of birds, including Sea and Wedge-Tailed Eagles that call the river home.
Keep an eye out for the iconic WA Black Swan that breeds by the hundreds in the shallow pools. Visit the wonderfully photogenic Hole in the Rock or “Nature’s Window”, a natural formation in the rock that frames the river perfectly inside it when viewed from the right angle. A day filled with many glorious sights!
Mullewa is famous as WA’s main wildflower area, known for its carpets of Everlasting Daisy’s and the unique Wreath flower.
Mullewa is home to many artists and town murals and after Morning Tea at the café / gallery of local artist Helen Ansell we will be dazzled by Nature’s artwork – be delighted by swathes of colourful Everlasting Daisies on an easy Wildflower Walk. We travel onto Pindar to see the rare Wreath Leschenaultia flower – exquisite rings of blooms, each made up of dozens of flowers with frilled petals of red, white and pink. After lunch we will return to Geraldton full of appreciation of the glory of God’s Creation. Relax or explore a little of Geraldton before dinner.
Located in the heart of wildflower country, Coalseam is renowned for its endless fields of WA wildflowers. Many varieties of wildflowers are found in abundance here – Everlastings, Banksias, Hakeas and Grevilleas will ensure an explosion of colour to delight your senses.
Wildlife such as kangaroos, emus, echidnas, eagles and cockatoos just add to the incredible experience – for the nature lover this is truly paradise.
Heading back to Geraldton we will stop in the charming coastal village of Port Denison; situated on the stunning Coral Coast this small crayfishing town is divided from its “twin”, the town of Dongara, by the Irwin River.
Enjoy worship at Geraldton Cathedral where we will join in fellowship with locals and join them for lunch after the service. Bishop Gary Nelson will give us a tour of the Cathedral and talk about the Diocese of North West Australia and key supporting agencies such as BCA, a subject close to his heart. As the Bishop of the vast North West Diocese Gary travels vast distances and really knows the region and we are delighted to have his input into this tour.
This area is well known for its delicious Western Rock Lobster so after lunch it is off to the local Crayfish Processing Plant for a tour. After the tour we will stop at the touching HMAS Sydney II Memorial to remember the 645 crew members lost to war in 1941.
Dinner tonight is with local BCA Field Staff, Brendan and Laura Hurley, and Bishop Gary and his wife Christine Nelson.
We farewell Geraldton and travel south stopping at Coomallo Creek – stretch your legs on an easy 1.5 km walk through woodland and heath to see the wildflowers in bloom as well as the unusual zamia palms. This seemingly scrubby area supports an amazing 1500 species of plants, of which 111 species are found only in this region.
Enjoy lunch in Lesueur National Park surrounded by the beauty of Nature. Known for its incredible floral diversity, Lesueur boasts some 820 species of WA wildflowers, many of which cannot be found anywhere else in the world. We arrive in Perth in the late afternoon.
Today you have time at leisure so you can relax or explore this laid-back capital city from our centrally based hotel. You will have use of the city’s Hop on / Hop off bus to travel all around and choose what to see (lunch today at own choice and cost). Be dazzled at the Perth Mint; see a traditional gold pour and the Guinness World Record One Tonne Gold Coin. If you think you are worth your weight in gold you can find out exactly how much that is!
With a special Wildflower Festival throughout September the beautiful Kings Park and Botanic Gardens are a must see. Get a wonderful 360-degree view over the Gardens, Swan River and City of Perth from the Observation Deck of the landmark Bell Tower, a unique building that is one giant musical instrument.
We give thanks today for all the beauty that we have seen and enjoyed together. After breakfast we bid farewell to W.A and fly home – our holiday may be at an end but what wonderful memories of glorious wildflowers, new places seen, people met, and friendships made!
